Could the secret to good health be found in Hunza class alkaline water?
In the remote mountains of northern Pakistan, the Hunza Valley is a beautiful region whose people enjoy good health, longevity, and happiness. It is also a region known for its water that flows down the mountains from glacier formations.
It is believed that this water has special properties that contribute to the long and practically disease-free life of the Hunza people.
Authentic Hunza class water that flows down the Himalayan Mountains and into sparkling blue lakes is not available worldwide and cannot be bought in bottles at your local supermarket.
While you can't drink the real deal without buying an expensive plane ticket or taking your time from work, there are a few homemade "Hunza water" recipes that mimic the original product in a variety of interesting and fun ways.

What is Hunza Class Water?
Hunza class water is simply water from the Hunza Valley that the inhabitants drink unfiltered.
As water flows from glaciers to the mountains, it is believed that Hunza water is filled with a large number of minerals, which is reflected in its lower surface tension and unique blue-green color.
Also, it is alkaline – meaning it has a higher pH than the water you're likely to drink every day. Some reports indicate that consuming alkaline water slows down the aging process, promotes wellbeing, and protects against disease.
Many Encouraging Studies
While more research is needed, there are many encouraging studies.
For example, a 2012 study, found evidence that drinking naturally carbonated alkaline water with a pH of 8.8 was able to deactivate pepsin, which causes acid reflux.
Another study’s findings suggested alkaline water may benefit people with high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure.
While all the claims of health benefits of alkaline water cannot yet be substantiated, many believe alkaline water has the ability to:
- Provide anti-aging properties (via liquid antioxidants that absorb more quickly into the human body)
- Offer Colon-cleansing properties
- Immune system support
- Hydration, skin health, and other detoxifying properties
- Weight loss
- Cancer resistance
How to Make Your Own Hunza Water
Obviously, it is not possible to recreate the waters of the Hunza Valley. However, it’s possible to recreate some of the water’s features that some say have health benefits, namely its high alkaline pH and mineral content.
The Hydrogen Water Machine is able to produce water with a pH value between 3.5 and 10.5. The Hydrogen Water Machine has seven different water levels for all of your different needs.
There are four hydrogen water levels for drinking, two acidic water levels for cleaning, and one level of non-ionized purified water for wide usage.
The alkaline ionized water which is created which contains minerals such as magnesium, sodium, potassium, and calcium, and at the anode, acidic ionized water is created (+) which contains minerals like chlorine, sulfur, and phosphorus.
The Hydrogen water generator provides the body with the alkalinity buffers that healthy water should provide.
Ionized water also offers the body an abundance of simple, natural, and easily absorbable antioxidants to protect against the damaging effects of oxidation on cells year-round. Also, it improves hydration to reverse the spiral of water loss with age.
Can you Drink Alkaline Water Everyday?
We all know that drinking lots of water every day can help our body thrive and avoid illness.
In fact, almost all body functions require adequate hydration. Now, however, a product called alkaline water is making waves. Proponents claim that it can help balance your body's pH levels, increase energy, and fight disease.
Drinking a glass of alkaline water every other day will not have any significant impact on your body.
However, when you drink a gallon of alkaline water every day, your body needs to work very hard to maintain its pH level. This means that your body will make more digestive enzymes and gastric juices over time.
In people with kidney disease or those taking medications that affect kidney function, minerals from alkaline water can build up in their bodies.
8 Glasses a Day
It is common knowledge that medical professionals recommend drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day to help us feel hydrated, improve our well-being, and eliminate toxins that we ingest daily.
If you have achieved this daily limit successfully, congratulations! You can simply replace your filtered or tap water with alkaline water.
We recommend drinking 8 to 12 glasses (or 2 to 3 liters) of alkaline water a day for the best benefits. Don't switch quickly though - switch slowly by mixing your alkaline water intake with plain water to get used to changes in your body's pH.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
However, if you are not used to drinking two or more liters of water a day, it is best to start slowly.
Try to drink 3 to 4 glasses first and gradually increase your intake. This will minimize any initial effects of transitioning to alkaline water in plain water that you may experience, including muscle aches, headaches, gas flu symptoms, and fatigue.
Not everybody experiences these adverse effects, but when you do, do not panic! It is a good sign that alkaline water is doing its job of getting rid of toxins and acidic wastes that are embedded deep in the muscle tissue.
Once the body adjusts to the lower acid levels, all symptoms disappear; they are likely to last 2 to 3 days or a few weeks, depending on the level of toxicity.
Is Alkaline Water Basic or Acidic?
In alkaline water, the term "alkaline" refers to its pH. A pH number measures the acidity or alkalinity of a substance on a scale of 0-14.
The pH of the water is a very important measure of the quality of the water. For instance, an item with a pH value of 1 would be very acidic and an item with a pH value of 13 would be very alkaline.
Alkaline water has a higher pH than normal drinking water. For this reason, some proponents of alkaline water believe that it can neutralize the acid in the body.
Generally, regular drinking water has a neutral pH value of 7. Alkaline water generally has a pH of 8 or 9. However, the pH alone is not enough to give the water significant alkalinity. Also, alkaline water must contain alkaline minerals and negative redox potential.
What is Considered High Alkaline Water?
Water is a combination of oxygen and hydrogen. That is why it is called H2O. The pH value of water determines its acidity and is between 0 and 14. A pH value of 7 is considered neutral.
This number "seven" is viewed as neutral or balanced between alkaline and acidic. If the water is below 7 on the pH scale, it is "acidic". If it's greater than 7, it is "alkaline".
Alkaline water of 11 or more is considered high alkaline water.
You should not drink water with a pH of 11.5. This is because it is too alkaline for the body. The human body has acid in the stomach, which is necessary for the digestive process. If an individual drinks water with such a high pH, it would neutralize that acid. It would seriously affect the digestive system.
Also, it can cause permanent and serious side effects on the body's cardiovascular system. It affects the metabolism regulation, which is necessary to maintain the energy needed to stay healthy and carry out other activities. It places additional strain on the kidneys. Also, it can make you dehydrated if you drink it in large quantities.
How is Alkaline Water Beneficial?
Alkaline water is a bit controversial. Many healthcare professionals believe there is not enough research to support the many health claims made by users and marketers. Differences in research may be related to the types of alkaline water studies.
Increased Blood Circulation
Those who drank water high in pH decreased viscosity by 6.3% when compared to 3.36% for plain drinking water – meaning that the blood will circulate more efficiently with alkaline water. This can increase the supply of oxygen to the entire body.
However, beyond these small studies, more research is needed. Research is particularly needed to address further claims made by proponents of alkaline water. Proponents of alkaline water believe it is beneficial in the following ways.
- anti-aging properties (thanks to liquid antioxidants that are more quickly absorbed by the human body)
- immune system support
- colon-cleansing properties
- skin health, hydration, as well as other detoxifying properties
- cancer resistance
- weight loss
Also, they argue that carbonated beverages, which are notably acidic, have very positive oxygen reduction potentials, which leads to many health problems, while properly alkalized and ionized water have highly negative oxygen reduction potentials.
